What did you learn about teaching that you did not know prior to this course?

What stood out as important to you over the past 8 weeks?

Learning Strategies that are Influenced by my Personal Philosophy of Teaching to integrate into the Curricula

Undoubtedly, teaching and learning is a continuous and lifelong journey. Nonetheless, it is the responsibility of educators to facilitate students in gaining knowledge as well as critical thinking through the implementation of proper learning strategies. My personal philosophy of teaching appreciates the role of active participation of students and the role they play in their education. Therefore, introducing student empowerment in the nursing curricula ensures that students work together with educators in finding solutions to nursing problems. Besides, student empowerment promotes critical thinking and positive clinical judgment in their nursing career. It is important to nurture students and treat them in a way that creates enthusiasm in them for lifelong learning. The teaching-learning process needs to be flexible and give students an opportunity to think critically and learn new information in line with their interests and for the purposes of professional development (Mthiyane & Habedi, 2018).

In addition, since students are from different backgrounds, the learning environment should promote diversity and the freedom for students to express their ideas. I believe that having a positive learning environment supports lifelong learning. The above learning strategies align with my personal philosophy of teaching as I believe that teachers have a role in building insights among students and fostering motivation in learning new information.
