Personal Philosophy of Nursing Education Paper
Self-reflection is considered to be an introspective process with self-observation of one thoughts and feelings (Billings & Halstead, 2012). For this assignment the student will write a paper (4-5 pages) which describes a personal philosophy of nursing education. Personal Philosophy of Nursing Education The paper should describe one personal feelings about teaching and learning.
What is your view of teaching?
What will be your teaching approach or teaching methods?
Why is this approach or methods the best for achieving the educational outcomes you are trying to achieve?
What methods will you use to effectively teach special populations such as different generations (Gen X or Gen Y, older students), and students who speak English as a second language?
What are the theoretical underpinnings for your philosophy? Relate your personal philosophy to one or two learning theory/theories.
Relate your personal philosophy to two NLN core competencies (See document: NLN Core Competencies of Nurse Educators with Task Statements)
Identify two goals to work toward while in the MSN program to establish oneself as an effective nurse educator.
Discuss one teaching/learning strategy for innovation in nursing education.
Example: Classroom- concept-based teaching, active learning strategies, use of instructional media, story-telling or others
Example: Clinical- simulation
The paper will be no more than 5 pages, not including title page and references. APA format (7th edition) is required including use of an introduction and conclusion and use of correct spelling and grammar. Avoid using casual language (language difficult for non-native speakers to understand). In this paper, personal pronouns (I, me, my) may be used. More than one theory may be used, but is not required. Limit to two theories.
