NURS 6002 /3 week 1 Discussion: Networking Opportunities

Discussion: Networking Opportunities

This week you begin to lay the foundation for your academic and professional success. Your efforts begin with a vision, which includes your own definition of success. Your vision may vary from those of your colleagues, but this does not mean you have to take these first steps alone.

Walden University and the College of Nursing also have a vision and mission, which include helping you to make your own vision a reality. Members of your new academic community, such as faculty, support teams, and fellow students, can also be helpful. Current practitioners and other members of the professional community can also help you to clarify your vision.

This week’s Discussion asks you to think about how the Walden mission and vision and the College of Nursing mission and vision apply to your professional and academic goals. You will also begin to identify individuals and teams that can help you along the way, as you begin to design the “blueprint”—your Academic Success and Professional Development Plan—that will guide you toward your own vision for academic and professional success.

To Prepare:

  • Review the Walden and the College of Nursing mission and vision statements, Walden’s goals and University Outcomes, and the MSN Program Learning Outcomes presented in this week’s Learning Resources.
  • Reflect on your professional and academic goals as they relate to your program/specialization.
  • Consider how the information in these resources fit with your own goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner.
  • Also consider academic and professional individuals and teams that you may collaborate with in support of your efforts as a student at the University and as a professional within your organization and career.

By Day 3

Post a brief post introducing yourself to your colleagues. Include an explanation for how Walden’s vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives relate to your professional and academic goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner. Also include an explanation for how the Walden MSN program outcomes and perspectives relate to your professional and academic goals and to your becoming a scholar-practitioner.

Support main post with 3 of more current, credible sources and cite source within content of posting and on a reference list in proper APA.

By Day 6

Respond to at least two of your colleagues on two different days, by suggesting additional individuals and/or teams with whom to collaborate or by offering additional networking strategies.

Be sure to offer support from at least 2 current, credible sources in each required response to classmates’ main post and cite per APA.

My Goals and University Vision and Mission

I can remember as young girl wanting to become a nurse to help people and impact their lives in a positive manner. I have been working as a nurse now for just over 13 years.  I have had the opportunity to touch many people’s lives as bedside nurse. I work for a hospital where we care for high risk mothers and infants. I have had the opportunity to care for severe preeclamptic moms, level 2 nursery babies and healthy moms and babies. I have a passion to help educate and care for my patients with the greatest carelove and knowledge.  My professional goal is to be able continue to learn and grow in my profession and become a Family Nurse Practitioner.  One of Walden’s mission goals say “To provide its programs through diverse process-learning approaches, all resulting in outcomes of quality and integrity. (2020b).”  I am eager to learn in this diverse process as listed above to provide the best quality care as I continue my education.

Social change

Walden defines positive social change as a deliberate process of creating and applying ideas, strategies, and actions to promote the worth, dignity, and development of individuals, communities, organizations, institutions, cultures, and societies (2020b).”  Social change is ongoing and being able to apply ideas and strategies into your career will only help benefit those you care for in a positive manner. We live in culturally diverse country and being aware of other’s cultures and beliefs are important when providing care.

After learning more about Walden University’s mission and vision, it was easy to make the decision on where I wanted to complete my master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. A school that is focused on helping students achieve their academic goals and pursue their role as scholarly professional is the place I want to be!  Walden states, “The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) prepares students to focus their practice on the identified health needs of society, become leaders in their field through scholarship, influence the quality of patient care, manage technology and information, gain autonomy in their careers, and develop a lifelong commitment to learning (2020a).”   I look forward to learning all that I can to achieve my goal and become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

I read your post and could easily understand why you are here at Walden. I too waited much later in live to work toward becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner. However. It sounds like you are already serving a diverse population and face many challenges with preeclampsia ,and work with infants who must be delivered early due to their mother’s health. Walden sounds like it is a perfect fit for you as it states you will come out with a process of learning to guide you with ” Quality and intregity,(Walden,2020a).”

I believe social change   is needed as the social included in its catalog to bring Positive change and promote ideas necessary to promote worth and integrity with dignity(2020b). I think your post  aligns perfectly with the school. ” The Master of Science in Nursing ( MSN) degree will help open doorways we have only imagined until now. Walden will provide opportunity to become autonomous in our careers as many of use have already become life long learners as it has a pal for our further commitment to continue with their aspiration ( 2020a). I wish you well in becoming the Family Nurse Practitioner you desire to be. I am sure you have the right idea and will be able to work to meet that goal.

I liked your post because Walden un University’s mission, vision statements emphasize a lot on the great opportunity we all have as students. Walden’s academic members are ready to help us achieve your professional and academic goals. Walden University is not only helping the USA populations, but it also helps many diverse populations around the world to pursue their highest education. Moreover, it empowers students and academic members with actions that promote social changes locally and globally. (Walden University, 2020) The University that embraces diversity in all disciplines, is key to open all the doors around the world. So, it privileges for you and I to choose as host to pursuit our educational journey.  Also, achieve the highest level of education in all disciplines including nursing is another factor that promotes social changes. According to, Brown, M. & Balts B., “With the increase in students and the number of students that are pursuing college degrees as well as the efforts by most universities to help students develop an ethical responsibility, it results that more humans are actively engaged in making the world a better place for all”. (Brown, M. S., & Balts, B., 2017, P. 139). So, I believed that at the end of our curriculum with Walden University, we will be ready to impact our patient, colleagues and people around the world.
