Review the Resources and reflect on the various strategies presented throughout the course that may be helpful in disseminating effective and widely cited EBP.
This may include: unit-level or organizational-level presentations, poster presentations, and podium presentations at organizational, local, regional, state, and national levels, as well as publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Reflect on which type of dissemination strategy you might use to communicate EBP.
By Day 3 of Week 9
Post at least two dissemination strategies you would be most inclined to use and explain why. Explain which dissemination strategies you would be least inclined to use and explain why. Identify at least two barriers you might encounter when using the dissemination strategies you are most inclined to use. Be specific and provide examples. Explain how you might overcome the barriers you identified. Reducing Burnout Discussion Post Essay Paper
Reducing Burnout Discussion Post
Health is an important aspect of human life and it is essential in measuring the quality of life of a person. Nurses are widely considered as among the healthcare works at the forefront in providing the services to people, be it in a government or a private healthcare setting. One of the most important Social Determinant of Health (SDH) is the social status of people in exposure to unhealthy and stressful living and working conditions. Burnout is one of the factors affecting the quality of life and performance of the healthcare works. This discussion post will provide two Evidence Based strategies that can be used to reduce burnout among nurses and thus improving their performance in their line of work.
EBP Dissemination Strategies
One of the proven methods of reducing burnout among nurses is the use of motivational programs. Proper motivational programs have been found to increase the nurses’ positivity towards the work and thereby able to work more efficiently with low likelihood of mental or physical burnout. According to Ebrahimzadehpezeshki (2017) managers can help to lower job burnout by using arrangements such as strengthening motivation, increasing job satisfaction, reducing environmental stress and tension, and on-job training programs to improve the performance of organization. These motivational activities are mostly arranged by the management as opposed to the nurses themselves. One of the effective motivational activities hospital managements can use is the “Nurse of the Month” program. This program is designed in a way that the most performing nurse is rewarded monthly, though the duration can be tailored to suit the specific characteristics of the health facility. While the reward may not be of high monetary value, it makes the winning nurse feel appreciated and her efforts recognized in the facility. Reducing Burnout Discussion Post Essay Paper
Another effective strategy that can be used in reducing burnout among nurses is improving the communication among various department, including patients, in the hospital. A study by Uchiyama found that facilities where nurses obtain information easily have less cases of burnout compared to their opposite ones. This study suggests that hospitals should put up systems where accessing information by the nurse will be less cumbersome. Similarly, patients should be encouraged to be candid in providing information to the healthcare workers. Communication between departments in the hospital can be improved through the use of an open horizontal and vertical communication system. This system works in a way that a junior staff in department A can communicate fellow junior staff in the same or different department. Also, the same worker can obtain information from a senior staff in the same or different department without going through long formal procedures.
Barriers
Although the above strategies are evidence-based and likely to reduce burnout among nurses in the healthcare sectors, some barriers may hinder their implementation. The cost of effective motivational programs may be too high for some healthcare facilities. As such, the facilities may view the motivational programs as systems likely to increase the cost of operation. Effective communication requires a thorough training both to the staff and to the patient. Trainings are expensive and time consuming. A patient in critical care will be more interested in the treatment than the communication training. Although there are barriers, the two strategies are the most effective ways of reducing burnout among nurses in the healthcare field.
