What is your role in this group?
I am a member of the American Nurses Association (ANA) under the membership category of nursing student. This level of membership is reserved for pre-licensure nursing students. In my role as a member of ANA, I am able to provide significant, unique insights that advance the science of nursing. This is especially the case in the face of rapidly evolving nursing field. For instance, I can highlight some of the emerging challenges that nursing students face and bring them to the attention of ANA for advocacy to address them (American Nurses Association, 2021).

Describe this group for the forum. What is the purpose of this group?
The purpose of ANA is to act as a voice for nurses by advocating for issues that affect nurses, promoting safe and ethical work environments, and fostering high standards of nursing practice. Even as I contribute to the organization as a student nurse, I receive significant benefits that support me in my professional journey. This includes access to a professional kit that presents a comprehensive collection of digital resources coalesced from other nurses who have been students. With this professional kit, I have help in finding a nursing job, enhancing my employability, and growing my nursing career. In addition, I have access to an exclusive student community that includes students just like myself who are navigating nursing school and facing similar challenges. Besides that, it offers me access to content that can only be accessed by members of the organization, to include digital publications. What qualities make this group successful?
ANA has been successful as a professional organization because of four qualities. Firstly, it applies strategic planning in terms of presenting long-term, clear goals with an eye towards eth current and future of the society, organization and health care industry. Secondly, it leverages relationships. It is the premier nursing organization in the USA and has a large number of nurses as members. This gives it the mandate to represent the interests of nurses even as it leverages the large membership to have large power in advocacy efforts. Thirdly, it leverages data. The organization does not do everything itself, and relies on the members so that it acts as a convener and champion that builds the scientific and education capacity of the members. This includes the publications that the members present. Finally, it is member-centric. The organization is consistent in its commitment to its members as it is organized around the members, and not the governance structure (DeNisco & Barker, 2016).
What are barriers to success within this group?
While the organization strives to achieve success, it faces a significant barrier from a shortage of resources. The organization activities require resources, however, these resources are limited so that the activities cannot be conducted as desired. For instance, ANA scholarships are highly sought after by the members, but most end up missing them because the education scholarships cost money, and ANA cannot pay for the education of every nurse (DeNisco & Barker, 2016).
