The relationship between academic integrity and writing is centered on honesty and moral behavior with regards to avoiding plagiarism. This focuses on ensuring that all sources of information are acknowledged with citations and references (Eaton, 2021). This is based on the awareness that compositions are typically based on ideas from different sources so that citing the source helps readers know the source of information. In addition, they (academic integrity and writing) apply paraphrasing to ensure that even as the idea from the source is retained, the word combinations and phrases do not appear similar so that the composition is considered original (Burkhardt & Nathaniel, 2021). They compare the writing against available online databases to check for and flag plagiarism as identified through similarities in phrases and word combinations. Once plagiarism is identified, it is highlighted to allow for the plagiarism to be addressed through paraphrasing. Also, they identify the source of the information to facilitate citation and referencing efforts. As such, Grammarly, Safe Assign and paraphrasing contribute to academic integrity by helping to identify and avoid plagiarism.
