Health care initiative
In January 2021, President Biden signed two executive orders that restored and strengthened American’s access to affordable, quality health care. Health Care Initiative Example Paper The initiative rolls back limitations that Trump administration placed on access to reproductive health care, Medicaid and Affordable Care Act (ACA), and opens up a special enrollment period for health coverage. The initiative demonstrates the Biden administration’s commitment to protecting and building on ACA to make health care systems more equitable and easier to navigate, protect access to reproductive health care, reduce the cost of health care, and meet the health care needs created by Covid-19 epidemic (The White House, 2021).
Role as health care advocate
The initiative presents an opportunity for nurses to take on an active role as health care advocates. Nurses can act as a resource to help the public members navigate the complex health care systems. The public would be more comfortable discussing difficulties they experience with nurses, rather than other medical personnel. Nurses are knowledgeable about a variety of resources both within and outside the community, and can assist individuals who are eligible for benefits within the initiative (Buppert, 2020). In addition, nurses can advocate for the community members by assisting them with the research involved in comparing costs of different health insurance programs and the benefits that the public can acquire under the different programs (Finkelman, 2019).
Advocacy tactic
An appropriate tactic to advocate for the identified initiative is to make flyers that summarize the initiative, and hand out the flyers to the community members to get them involved in the initiative by signing up for the benefits if eligible. This tactic makes use of the available resources to inform the public about the benefits they can derive from the initiative (Milstead & Short, 2019).
