How is information technology important for the success of an organization?

Information technology serves an important function in ensuring the success of an organization by driving innovation, which in turn paves the path for an organization’s success. In essence, information technology fosters innovation, which makes the organization run more efficiently as it (innovation) results in wider information distribution, faster processing, improved data storage and smarter applications. Organizations that have embraced advances in innovation technology enjoy instant customer support, real time monitoring, more systematic management, higher sales and revenues, more effective marketing, and more accurate business planning (Houston et al., 2018).

Put into another perspective, information technology allows an organization to enjoy accelerate business growth in five primary ways. Firstly, improving resource management as the organization can track the resources in use from anywhere in the world, knowing where there are excesses, shortfalls and just-enough resources. Secondly, improving customer support as it allows customers to receive support from the organization through multiple communication channels, such as webinars, social media platforms, emails, telephones, and so on. Information technology will be utilized and leveraged in nurse leader role to ensure successful performance as a health care organization and business entity. Firstly, it will be applied to improve resource management. This will be especially useful in tracking staffing, medication and other resources required in nursing care delivery. Secondly, it will be applied to improve customer support. This will be used to engage patients in conversations about their needs, such as using the patient portal to book an appointment.
