Compare and contrast the role of the Nurse Case Manager with that of the role of the Master’s prepared Informaticists. Include in the discussion key points regarding education, competencies, licensure and/or certifications.

Nurse case manager and Master’s prepared informatics are specializations within the nursing profession. A nurse case manager is concerned with advocating for patients by using professional knowledge and organizational skills to coordinate patient care aspects that include communicating with the family about the patient’s health status as well as treatment options that are cost effective. Becoming a nurse case manager requires licensure as a registered nurse as well as experience as a clinical nurse with case management background. An associate’s degree in nursing is an acceptable education background although most employers require a bachelor’s degree in nursing qualification. Besides that, persons who have completed the education program must pass the National Council Licensure Examination to be allowed to practice as case managers (All Nursing Schools, 2020; Fitzpatrick & Ea, 2012).
On the other hand, a Master’s prepared informaticist incorporates information, computer and nursing sciences to develop and maintain medical systems and data that support nursing practices while improving health care outcomes. This profession requires strong critical thinking and analytical skills as well as problem solving and project management capabilities. This career requires a master of science in nursing qualification although a doctoral degree program is recommended. Prior to this qualification, the individual must have first obtained a bachelor’s degree in nursing qualification from an accredited nursing program. Successful completion of the National Council Licensure Examination is required for licensure. Certification is obtained via independent stud from the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Besides that, the individual must have practiced for at least two years’ full time as a registered nurse (Fitzpatrick & Ea, 2012; Registered Nursing Organization, 2020).
