Part 2. Professional development goals

I have four professional goals that I intend to achieve over the next six years. My first goal is to develop my clinical practice as a PMHNP. My second goal is to complete a Doctorate of Nursing in PMHNP. My third goal is to take on an advocacy role by participating in policy development forums with other health care stakeholders. My final goal is to participate in activities that enhance the role of nurse practitioners while advocating for evidence-based and comprehensive care in psychiatric care delivery (Alvinus, 2017; Varcarolis & Fosbre, 2020).

Part 3. Alignment with Walden University’s emphasis on social change

The four professional goals are focused on bringing about social change. The first goal would improve access to psychiatric care by creating a facility dedicated to providing psychiatric care so that patients have one more facility from which to receive care. The second goal would improve my knowledge levels and professional qualifications. This allows me to take on more responsibilities and provide better care to my patients. The third goal is targeted at policy development, an issue that has social implications since policies are targeted at whole populations. The final goal is targeted at targeted at improving nurses’ capacity to provide psychiatric care. This is important for improving care outcomes (Alvinus, 2017; Varcarolis & Fosbre, 2020).
