Nsg 6435 Week 2 Discussion;Developmental Assessment and Biological Functioning

This discussion assignment provides a forum for discussing relevant topics for this week based on the course competencies covered. For this assignment, make sure you post your initial response to the Discussion Area by Saturday, August 5, 2017.

To support your work, use your course textbook readings and the South University Online Library. As in all assignments, cite your sources in your work and provide references for the citations in APA format.

Start reviewing and responding to the postings of your classmates as early in the week as possible. Respond to at least two of your classmates’ initial postings. Nsg 6435 Week 2 Discussion;Developmental Assessment and Biological Functioning. Participate in the discussion by asking a question, providing a statement of clarification, providing a point of view with a rationale, challenging an aspect of the discussion, or indicating a relationship between two or more lines of reasoning in the discussion. Cite sources in your responses to other classmates. Complete your participation for this assignment by Wednesday, August 9, 2017.

For this assignment, you will complete an iHuman case study based on the course objectives and weekly content. iHuman cases emphasize core learning objectives for an evidence-based primary care curriculum. Throughout your nurse practitioner program, you will use the iHuman case studies to promote the development of clinical reasoning through the use of ongoing assessments and diagnostic skills and to develop patient care plans that are grounded in the latest clinical guidelines and evidence-based practice.

The iHuman assignments are highly interactive and a dynamic way to enhance your learning. Material from the iHuman cases may be present in the quizzes, the midterm exam, and the final exam.

Here you can view information on how to access and navigate iHuman.

This week, complete the iHuman case titled “Buddy (Theodore, Jr.) VE.

Apply information from the iHuman Case Study to answer the following questions:

Why is developmental assessment essential in the provision of primary care for infants, children, and adolescents, and what are the essential components of this assessment on the basis of a child’s age? Nsg 6435 Week 2 Discussion;Developmental Assessment and Biological Functioning.

Which tools will you use to assess specific components of development (such as speech, motor skills, social skills, etc.)? Which tools do you think are the most accurate in assessing the developmental components and why?

Which components would you consider in assessing the basic biological functioning and well-being of your pediatric patients? Why are these components important in providing primary health-care services to children?

Which components would you consider in assessing the basic biological functioning and well-being of your pediatric patients? Why are these components important in providing primary health-care services to children?

Developmental assessment is essential in the provision of primary care for infants, children, and adolescents because it helps identify symptoms that could indicate problems in development by paying attention to their physical, social, mental, and emotional conditions (Burns, Dunn, Brady, Starr & Blosser, 2013). Developmental assessment is also important since it helps in identifying instances of the possibility of disability and thus, informing an immediate course of action to mitigate the signs. The essential components of such an assessment are based on age and involve observations of the way children and adolescents speak, learn, move, and behave (Wissow, Brown, Fothergill, Gadomski, Hacker, Salmon, & Zelkowitz, 2013). Nsg 6435 Week 2 Discussion;Developmental Assessment and Biological Functioning.

Various diverse tools exist for evaluating specific components of development. The Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) tool has been deemed very useful in evaluating motor skills, language, and problem-solving abilities (Burns et al., 2013). On the other hand, Child Development Inventories (CDI) tool measures development in areas such as social skills and comprehension. The best tool for assessing speech development is the Battelle Developmental Inventory Screening Test (BDIST) since it has an ability to tap into diverse domains (Cloutier, Wiley, Huedo-Medina, Ohannessian, Grant, Hernandez, & Gorin, 2015).

When evaluating the basic biological functioning and well-being of pediatric patients I would consider the Gross Motor Function Measure (GMFM). Consideration of this component would also include the Gross motor Performance measure (GMPM) because the two work best when used simultaneously (Wissow et al., 2013). These components would be helpful in evaluating biological functionality since they work hand in hand to locate changes in biological functions in regard to movements such as sitting, standing, rolling, jumping, and lying (Burns et al., 2013). Additionally, these tools are important in providing primary health care services to children since they help in the acquisition of information that can. Nsg 6435 Week 2 Discussion;Developmental Assessment and Biological Functioning.
