Organizational Culture
Organizational culture identifies the collection of practices, expectations and values that inform and guide the actions of stakeholders in an organization. It can be perceived as the collection of traits that are unique to the organization. The development of an organizational culture occurs through authentic and consistent actions, and not simply words (Weiss, Tappen & Grimley, 2019).
What is the state of cultural/organizational readiness for quality improvement?
The organizational culture reveals readiness for quality improvement. This is evidenced by fidelity in quality improvement approaches with a focus on ensuring that all approaches adhere to a program model/protocol originally developed for the same purpose. The organization applies a Six Sigma quality improvement model with five stages that defines the improvement area, measures performance, analyzes associated processes to establish root cause of defects or variations, improves the process, and controls the new process as new standard practice (Beauvais, 2018). Is the organizational culture present for quality improvement?
The organizational culture is present for quality improvement. Firstly, there is organizational capacity to facilitate quality improvement with significant support from the management to support evidence-based improvements. Secondly, all quality improvement efforts are turned into the organizational context to support the improvement. Thirdly, the organization adopts a quality improvement culture that includes fidelity in quality improvement approaches, maintaining stakeholders’ engagement and co-production, allocating adequate resources and time, and developing and maintaining supportive leadership approaches (Vana & Tazbir, 2021).
What leadership strategies are present in the organization to support quality improvement, positive patient experiences, and healthcare quality?
Leadership strategies applied in the organization support quality improvement, positive patient experiences and health care quality. To be more precise, the leadership approach provides the framework that supports improvements and nurtures a culture in which the primary objective is to pursue patient-centered, efficient and secure care (Stanley, 2017). The leadership approach is based on equality, mutual respect and dignity, and this helps in achieving every aspect of improving patient satisfaction, productivity and quality while inspiring innovation, ensuring effectiveness and fostering compassion (Finkelman, 2019). Overall, leadership at the organization nurtures an organizational culture that ceaselessly maintains high quality care.
