Professional Development Plan Discussion Paper
I have currently been a medical Assistant for a number a years. I want to help in rural areas first but get experience in a hospital setting also. goal for 5-10 years is to own my own business to help educate about health.
Professional Development Plan
As an individual attending nursing school and planning for a professional nursing career, there are short- and long-term considerations in mind. The short-term considerations are to: graduate from the nursing school program; get the appropriate clinical practice time; pass the certification examination; and get employed in a well-paying professional position that allows me to practice to the full extent of my knowledge and competencies while gaining appropriate practice experience. The long-term considerations are to elevate my marketability and professionalism by acquiring a higher degree that matches the changing health care landscape and provides more professional opportunities (Masters, 2017).
I am in the process of achieving the short-term considerations since I am attending nursing school and getting the appropriate clinical practice time. Professional Development Plan Discussion Paper I am yet to sit and pass the certification examination, or to get employed in a well-paying professional position. I must first graduate from nursing school before sitting for the certification examination and getting employed (Masters, 2017).
The long-term considerations are yet to be clarified because I am in the process of assessing my long-term desires and need to practice in order to realize the specific nursing care aspects that I love. It is difficult to pin down my long-term objectives and goals, although I understand that I must first succeed in the short-term considerations before moving on to the long-term considerations. In addition, I understand that the qualifications gained in the short-term considerations would only allow me to have professional satisfaction and mastery for a while, as I would start struggling with the new nursing technologies and approaches. Once I have identified my specific passions in the nursing profession, I will enroll in an education program that provides me with an advanced degree that offers me greater professional opportunities while allowing me to pursue the desired career path (Black, 2020).
My current strengths are that I am already in a nursing school and pursuing professional education that will allow me to practice as a nurse. In addition, I am gaining clinical practice experience. Besides that, I am in the process of preparing for the certification examination by meeting the exam preconditions with regards to completing nursing education from an accredited education institution and getting the appropriate clinical practice time. However, my weakness is that I am yet to identify the nursing specialty that holds the most desire for me as this will allow me to make the appropriate long-term goals in terms of the specific advanced degree programs to acquire (Black, 2020). For instance, if I learn that I love management then I would attend advanced education programs that focus on nursing management and organizational leadership.
It is clear that I am in the process of achieving my short-term goals, but am yet to determine the specific long-term goals. Towards this end, I have developed an action plan that will allow me achieve the long-term goals. The problem is that I am yet to identify the nursing area that holds the most interest for me. My goal is to identify the best career path for me within the next two years. I expect to achieve this goal by practicing in different nursing care settings to help me identify what holds the greatest interest to me. In addition, I will achieve this goal by consulting with other practicing nurses and getting their views on the suitable specialties and career path (Masters, 2017).
