Nursing leadership is one of indisputably the main factors in prodding and moving chaperons (who make up the unquestionable bigger piece of the clinical consideration force) to practice at the most elevated place of their licensure. The ANA Leadership Institute portrays an orderly boss as “an excited about prevailing in a “an attendant occupation way, a trailblazer inside a clinical consideration affiliation who tends to the interests of the nursing calling, a painstakingly pre-arranged medical attendant or clinical consideration chief enthused about refining capacities to isolate them from the resistance or to advance to a more serious level of power (Rosser et al., 2020). In this assignment, the roles and responsibilities of the nursing profession would be discussed by aligning the same with the case study of the 8 patients provided. It provide delegation, supervision and prioritising of the duties of the nurses as per the necessity of the patients. NMBA registered nurses as per the standard of practice would be discussed in providing safe and high-quality care to the patients.
A nurse is a caregiver to patient and help in the management of physical needs, treating health condition and preventing illness. They are required to observe and monitor the patient by recording relevant information that helps in treatment and decision-making (Start et al., 2020). A registered nurse (RN) is an individual who influences and co-ordinate with the patients and their family members (Fry et al., 2021). The RN oversees all the units and follows proper protocol and guidelines for maintaining high-quality care. The nurses also set convenient goals for proper patient outcomes. As per the case scenario, it can be seen that Kim worked as a registered nurse (RN) in the general medical and cardiology ward whereas Alex is an enrolled nurse. Both of them had worked and Kim felt that Alex was intimidating. Due to understaffing issues, both of them need to take care of eight rooms. Bronwyn is the team leader in the health care setting who is generous and helps the registered nurse by explaining terms and jargon used in the handover process. In addition to this, there is a graduate nurse educator and cardiology clinical consultant who help in offering adequate information to nurses in case of any difficulty. As per the case study, Alex decided to take care of the four-bed bay and Kim is assigned to take care of patients in the single rooms. The enrolled nurse needs to help health consumer with various activities in daily life, observe the changes in their health condition and report it to the RN, administer medicines and involve other nursing care responsibilities that are appropriate to the assessed competence (Blay & Smith, 2020). However, due to the shortage of RNs in the care facility, it was found that the EN was involved in caring for patients on their own. This may pose threat to the lives of the patients however, the issue of understaffing has led to such a situation. AIN works under the direction of a Nurse or Midwife to assist in the delivery of patient care in the acute care environment (McNally & Blay, 2018). Roles And Responsibilities Of Nursing Profession In The Care Of Patients Essay Paper
The role of the registered nurse leader is to organise the team and act as an advocate to the physician by serving them to reduce the risk of an emergency. The task of a nurse leader is based on the building of quality administration by ensuring that the healthcare professionals adhere to the system and executes the approaches and methods (Bowles et al., 2018). It is important that nurse leaders have administrative capabilities in order to design, coordinate and work as per the care required by the patients. This is more critical in this case due to the spread of coronavirus, the nurses need to adhere to strict regulations that are overseen by the nurse leader. Bronwyn plays a critical leadership role in this case study by allocating duties and helping as much as possible to RNs. According to Noles et al. (2019), nurse leaders involve in overseeing the nursing unit, ensuring nurses by following the protocols and procedures to maintain patient safety and high-quality care. The nurse leader is responsible for setting goals for patient outcomes and aligning the unit’s goal with the organisation’s strategic objectives. As indicated by NMBA guidelines 2.6, utilizes appointment, oversight, coordination, counsel and references in proficient connections to accomplish further developed wellbeing results (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2022). This was conducted by Bronwyn who helped the nurses, Kim and Alexa. It can be seen that the nurse leader in this case study was involved in helping team members to work better and improve patient care. For instance, Kim stated that Bronwyn explain terms and jargon as she had registered only 3 months from now. The aspects of effective communication, accountability, motivation, delegation and construction feedback are part of leadership in nursing professions. These are important in order to run the unit in a smooth manner. In addition to nurse leaders, the role of an RN as a leader is considered to be critical. According to Adams et al. (2018), nurse leadership is stated to be the ability to inspire, have an impact and motivate healthcare professionals as they work in collaboration to achieve the goals. According to the NMBA norms 2.7 that states effectively cultivate a culture of wellbeing and discovering that incorporates drawing in with wellbeing experts and others, to share information and practice that upholds individual focused care (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2022). Because of her experience, Alex, the EN is more capable than Kim therefore, she chose which patient to deal with and by whom. This demonstrated leadership qualities of allocation and delegation that are considered to be an important activity of nursing professionals. The nursing profession has to respond to a rapidly changing environment and increase complexity in the healthcare environment. The pandemic is one of the most challenging situations however, it acted as a catalyst for change and innovation in the nurse leadership at all levels to respond to the new challenges presented by the pandemic (Wei et al., 2020). The leader in nursing need to be a role model to the healthcare and team members and is able to effectively communicate the expectation and goals of each member. It is important that in a team each member is aware of their role, the role of other member that enables them to work in collaboration in order to achieve goals (Health.nsw.gov.au, 2022).
Nursing has various components involved however, prioritisation of tasks that ensure time management is critical. The ability to prioritise and manage is considered vital for a successful RN irrespective of being a novice or an expert. It can be stated that this skill cannot be learnt from a textbook, it requires thorough practice on a regular basis that converges in making safe decisions and delivering care to patients (Suhonen et al., 2018). According to NMBA standard 5.2, cooperatively develops nursing practice plans until possibilities, choices needs, objectives, activities, results and time periods are settled upon with the pertinent people (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2022). From the contextual investigation, it was observed that there is a deficiency of medical attendants in the unit explicitly because of the pandemic and accordingly, two attendants were apportioned 8 patients from rooms 1 to 5. The prioritization for the care of the patients in the single room includes reinfusion of the Flolan which needs to provide with a nurse educator’s help. Observation of the limb and groin in room 3 patients need to be provided with the help of a cardiac nurse consultant. In room 4, a second dose and frusemide need to be provided to the nurse by the registered nurse by 5 pm. As per 2.7, the nursing standard is person-centred and proper care needs to be provided to the patients in every room (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2022).
Delegation indicates sharing of authority with other care providers in order to provide care to patients. The RN assigns or delegates tasks on the basis of the needs as well as the requirement of the patient, harm, stability of the condition and other factors (Dudley et al., 2021). It is important to have a high degree of confidence that the task will be completed in a correct and safe manner. This helps in managing the workload in the medical facility. In this case, the nursing profession determine the scope of practice and standards and the RN take the responsibility and accountability of delegating by directing care and determining the utilisation of resources while offering care to patients (Saqer & AbuAlRub, 2018). The RN delegate task and elements of care however, they are not responsible for the delegation of the nursing process.
The enrolled nurture should look at every patient handover and give appropriate treatment by assessing the state of the patient relying upon the intricacy of the issue (Thibault et al., 2020). A designation plan would be proposed including the alumni nurture teacher and the clinical expert for dealing with the patient and furthermore giving the medicine at a proper time. Appropriate assignments should be kept up with alongside legitimate administration guidelines. The enrolled nurturer Kim has restricted admittance to information about reconstituting Flolan and mixture. Appropriate correspondence should be made with respect to this to the nurse leader Bronwyn. The standard 2.6 NMBA should be kept up with while appointing the jobs and moves (Nursingmidwiferyboard.gov.au, 2022). As Kim requires preparation and instruction, and with respect to both of these issues, it could prompt lethal results. Room 1 Roy seas needed support with topping off the drug at 5. In-room 4, Glenda Turkey requires 40 mg of IV frusemide at 3 pm. In room 3, persistent checking for 15 minutes is expected of the patient in the room In room3. In the bayside room, need consideration should be given to the two of the patients Athena Swan at accurate 4 pm and Liam Duck needs clinical consideration by 3 pm.
Conclusion
From the above analysis, it can be concluded that nursing leadership is an essential and important factor in motivating and inspiring the nurses in order to provide satisfactory care to the patients. The nurse leaders have an important role to correlate the team and the patients in order to achieve long term success for the patients. The NMBA operates independently and its major function is to oversee the practitioner registration. The leader needs to view each case of the patient and suggest proper treatment depending on the severity of the issue. A delegation plan would be suggested involving the graduate nurse educator and the clinical consultant for managing the patient and also providing the medication at an appropriate time.
