Using the Walden Library Discussion Paper
Where can you find evidence to inform your thoughts and scholarly writing? Throughout your degree program, you will use research literature to explore ideas, guide your thinking, and gain new insights. As you search the research literature, it is important to use resources that are peer-reviewed and from scholarly journals. You may already have some favorite online resources and databases that you use or have found useful in the past. For this Discussion, you explore databases available through the Walden Library.
To Prepare:
Review the information presented in the Learning Resources for using the Walden Library, searching the databases, and evaluating online resources.
Begin searching for a peer-reviewed article that pertains to your practice area and interests you.
By Day 3 of Week 6
Post the following:
Using proper APA formatting, cite the peer-reviewed article you selected that pertains to your practice area and is of particular interest to you and identify the database that you used to search for the article. Explain any difficulties you experienced while searching for this article. Would this database be useful to your colleagues? Explain why or why not. Would you recommend this database? Explain why or why not. Using the Walden Library Discussion Paper

Damar et. al. (2018) is a journal article that presents the results of a study to evaluate the research studies on pain management. Relying on scientometric methods, specifically identified as advanced text analytics and data visualization techniques, the researchers initially identified 107,559 research articles that were then reduced to 3,976 research articles after further defining the search terms. The journal article was useful in identifying content, trends and networks related to pain management from nurses’ perspective (Damar et. al., 2018).
Damar et. al. (2018) was searched for and identified in the NCBI PubMed database. Although the search identified a significant number of literature, there were challenges in the search and management of results. The first challenge was what information to record for transparency. The second challenge was how to assess the results. The third challenge was how to appropriately search and navigate the resources. The final challenge was how to identify and decide which resources to search (Stansfield, Dickson & Bangpan, 2016).
The NCBI PubMed database would be useful to nursing students. That is because it is a database/search engine dedicated to presenting medical publications. Besides that, the database includes multiple filters that help in focusing on the most relevant publications. The filters ensure that the probability of missing important information is reduced. Still, there is a need for familiarity with the use of the database in order to get the desired results. It makes use of MeSH terms that limit use by persons who are unfamiliar with them. To be more precise, the database has been designed for users already familiar its navigation. Besides that, users must possess domain knowledge that is relative to the search subject in order to get the desired results.
